This Gulmohar will not Bloom Again
Category: Nature 'n Landscapes
If Bangalore residential areas are laced with yellow color in January - February (see Spring in Bangalore), come April, it turns red, thanks to the blooming Gulmohar trees:

But, this particular tree, near the Trinity circle may never bloom again, thanks to the Bangalore Metro rail under construction. When I passed via Trinity circle, half an hour after taking this picture, the tree was uprooted.

The picture is shot with the Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L (macro) lens, hand held, Av mode, f/6.3, ISO-100 and -1 EV exposure compensation for a 1/250s exposure. I used the exposure compensation, since I felt that the red color came out better with a little under exposure.

Update: Just wanted to add that my intention was not to oppose the Metro rail construction. I believe that these are sacrifices we need to make for clean and more efficient transport. Instead of crying about the trees which are being cut, let us all pledge to use more public transport and reduce the congestion and polution, which will save some of these trees.

Such a pity to lose a beautiful flowering tree like this one.

I saw lots of those pretty trees while I was in India many years ago and loved the brightness and colour they added to otherwise sometimes drab streets.

Yes, these trees on either side of the road look very beautiful. It is very sad many trees like this are going down for road expansion and metro. This roads will never look same again.

Gulmohar is my janma vriksham...ahh...just kidding!
We had this tree opposite our house in Coimbatore and it was framed by the front room window. I almost grew with it's changing moods and wasted quiet a lot of summer afternoons in its breeze. It is not there anymore so a similar episode kiddles the pleasant memories. Children used to chew the creamy succulent odd petals. Believe me, it has a subtle sweetness!

Such a pity that the tree was cut down! Wish we would plant many more for each tree that we cut.

I noticed the gulmohars on my last visit to Bangalore. They were in bloom everywhere and looked very beautiful. I will be posting those pictures in an upcoming post.

Love your picture. Too bad about the metro project is resulting in a big loss of trees. I hope they are planting more to compensate.

Glennis: There are many trees being cut in blore, especially for the upcoming metro rail. I do agree that these flower trees were making the streets of blore somewhat interesting

Viji: Defenitely, its a sad sight. I hope the metro will bring us clean / cheap public transport and cut down on pollution and help the vegetation eventually

Rajesh: Sadly, the roads will never look same again. I hope some plants will be replanted.

Bindu: Yup ... I just hope that in the long run it turns out good and reduce overall pollution

Joshi: I was stunned to see that the tree was felled by the time I returned :( The worst part is that I pass through the same street almost everyday, look at the tree trunk and sigh :(

Manasa: U r most welcome here and keep coming back

Usha: I hope the metro will eventually bring down the pollution. Let us all pledge to use the public transport more and eventually help bring down the pollution levels.

Dinesh: Thnx Dinesh. I too have added u to my blogroll :)

Sridevi: The only childhood memories I had of Gulmohar is that there were a couple of them in my school compound. But, blore is full of them and its a treat to see them in full bloom on either side of the roads :)

Mridula: I hope that its being done

Jelb: Thnx Jelb and welcome here

Vamsee: Looking fwd for the pictures. These trees are infusing some life into the otherwise non-descript residential areas of blore

Mohkum: Thnx Mohkum. Its sader for me since I pass thru the same location almost everyday :(
