Kids @ Padinharayil, 2009
Category: People 'n Portraits
Every year, a day before Vishu, @ our maternal house there is an offering to the family diety. Its indeed a gr8 opportunity to meet the entire family and for me, to click a few shots of the younger generation. I did post some of the pictures last year too from the same function (See the post Kids @ Padinharayil). Here are the pics from this year:

The first pic is of Vaishnav, who had been one of my favorite subjects :) (See the post Vaishnav's Pics).

This is Upasana and everytime she see me with camera she says 'എനിക്ക് ഫോട്ടോ എടുക്കുന്നത് ഇഷ്ടമല്ല' (I dont like taking my photos)! The only chance I have is following her around with the longest lens I have :)

The third one is Devi Parvathy aka Malu and this is the first time I am posting her photos.

All pictures are taken using the Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L (macro) lens, handheld, Av mode @ f/3.5. I had ISO-200 turned on only for the first picture, but moved back to ISO-100 for the remaining. Guess, I needed it atleast for the 3rd pic, since Malu was in the shade. The first pic came @ 1/500s, 2nd at 1/200s and the third one @ 1/125s.

"Master of Mayhem" surely takes the cake in this series.

Great pictures again!

Why don't you post some tips and tricks on taking pics of people? I guess that's the most difficult, esp. kids I guess. Opinion of a (very) amateur photographer :)

Lovely pictures. Lovely kids.

Like the faded background that promotes the kid to prominence.

The little master is taking the lead. You could bring out the true skin tones here. Great work!

Thomas: Yup ... thats my fav too :)

Anoop: Not much tips to share here, Anoop. I use a 180mm lens @ f/3.5 which gives me a blurred background and also allows me to shoot from a distance, so that i get candid shots. I wud keep it simple - use the longest lens u have, go outdoors for good natural light, preferebly evening about 5 or morning about 9, let the kids have a free run and shoot with the aperture at its widest (or a li'l less depending on ur lens)

Joshi: Thnx. I guess u visited my site's index page :) Its a few months now. I shud change the index page :)

Mridula: They were having a lot of fun :), especially the master of mayhem!

Shilpa: Thnx Shilpa, the background blur is thnx to the 180mm and wide aperture. I'd been using this lens for portraits whenever the light permits :)

Mohkum: Thnx. It was outdoors and natural light. Guess, thats why :)
